We are looking for an enthusiastic M.Sc. by Research student interested in working in partnership with GLL and Middlesex University London to develop a system to incorporate gamification concepts as part of the strategy to encourage healthy physical activity in children. The student will be based at the Hendon campus of Middlesex University and will be working in close cooperation with the GLL team as well.
The system will have to comply with the following:
- Run in a computing platform to be determined at month 2 of the project. This could use technology similar to RFID distributed in a playground, be mobile phone based, or a combination of both.
- Encourage children to be healthier through the use of gamification strategies
- Connect to a collection of similar tools from GLL
The selected student is expected to have some experience of developing software, especially Java, and if experienced in developing for mobile phone platforms it will be considered an advantage. Technical infrastructure will be provided by Middlesex University and GLL. The system will be piloted on real users whit help of Middlesex University or GLL programmes.
The studentship will provide £5,000 to cover all fees for the MSc by Research on Ambient Assisted Living at Middlesex University and a surplus for a laptop. Payment will be done directly from GLL to Middlesex University. Living costs should be covered by the student.
This will be one year full time program (the last two months used to write the Master Thesis). The candidate will start the 12 months long MSc by Research program in late September 2018. Upon successful completion of the program (passing the final viva) , the student will be awarded an M.Sc. by Research on Ambient Assisted Living.
